About Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) Glycoprotein gp350 Recombinant Protein
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is an enveloped double-stranded DNA virus belonging to the genus Lymphocryptovirus in the family Herpesviridae. Glycoprotein gp350 (gp350/220) is the most abundant envelope glycoprotein on the EBV surface and mediates the initial attachment of the virus to B lymphocytes by binding the complement receptor CR2 (CD21). This interaction initiates viral entry and facilitates subsequent membrane fusion mediated by other viral glycoproteins. Because gp350 is the primary target of virus-neutralizing antibodies, it has become one of the most extensively studied antigens for EBV vaccine development, antibody discovery, and serological assay development.
