About Hepatitis B e Antigen (HBeAg) Recombinant Protein
Hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) is a secreted, nonstructural viral protein produced during Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Unlike the viral surface antigen (HBsAg) or core antigen (HBcAg), HBeAg is derived from the precore/core gene through proteolytic processing and is actively secreted from infected hepatocytes. Clinically, the presence of HBeAg in serum is widely recognized as a marker of active viral replication and high infectivity, making it an important biomarker for monitoring chronic HBV infection and evaluating antiviral therapy. In addition to its diagnostic significance, HBeAg is believed to modulate host immune responses and contribute to viral persistence by promoting immune tolerance.
eEnzyme's Hepatitis B e Antigen (HBeAg) Recombinant Protein is expressed in HEK293 cells, providing native mammalian glycosylation and proper protein folding that closely resemble the natural viral antigen. The purified recombinant protein exhibits high purity and is suitable for ELISA, Western blotting, antibody characterization, diagnostic assay development, vaccine research, and host-virus interaction studies. The mammalian expression system preserves conformational epitopes important for antibody recognition, making this protein an excellent reagent for hepatitis B research and immunological applications.
Applications
• Hepatitis B diagnostic assay development
• ELISA standard and positive control
• Western blot analysis
• Anti-HBe antibody characterization
• HBV vaccine and immunology research
• Host-virus interaction studies
• Epitope mapping
• Therapeutic antibody development
Biological Significance of HBeAg
HBeAg is one of the most important serological markers used in the clinical management of hepatitis B infection. Detection of circulating HBeAg generally correlates with high HBV replication, increased viral DNA levels, and enhanced infectivity, whereas loss of HBeAg and development of anti-HBe antibodies often indicate reduced viral replication and successful immune control or antiviral treatment response. Beyond its role as a biomarker, HBeAg has been shown to influence innate and adaptive immune responses, helping HBV evade immune clearance and establish chronic infection. Although HBeAg is not required for viral replication, it contributes significantly to viral persistence and disease progression by promoting immune tolerance within the host.
The Hepatitis B e Antigen (HBeAg) Recombinant Protein provides a high-quality research reagent for investigating HBV pathogenesis, evaluating immune responses, developing sensitive diagnostic assays, and supporting the discovery of new antiviral therapeutics. Its native mammalian expression and preserved conformational epitopes make it particularly valuable for hepatitis B virology, immunology, vaccine development, and translational biomedical research.
