About Japanese Encephalitis Virus Core (Capsid) Protein
Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV) is a mosquito-borne flavivirus and one of the leading causes of viral encephalitis in Asia. The Core (Capsid, C) protein is a structural protein that packages the viral RNA genome and forms the nucleocapsid at the center of the virion. Unlike the Envelope (E) protein, which mediates host-cell attachment and entry, the Core protein functions primarily in viral genome encapsidation, nucleocapsid assembly, virion formation, and regulation of viral replication. Structural studies have demonstrated that the JEV capsid protein forms homodimers that serve as important building blocks of the viral nucleocapsid.
In addition to its structural role, the JEV Core protein participates in multiple stages of the viral life cycle through interactions with viral RNA, cellular membranes, lipid droplets, and host proteins. These activities contribute to efficient viral assembly, particle maturation, and production of infectious virions. The multifunctional nature of the Core protein has made it an important target for studies of flavivirus replication, virus-host interactions, and antiviral drug discovery.
eEnzyme's recombinant Japanese Encephalitis Virus Core Protein provides a valuable research reagent for investigations of viral assembly, nucleocapsid formation, RNA-protein interactions, structural biology, antiviral screening, and host-pathogen interactions. The protein is suitable for antibody generation, immunological assays, protein interaction studies, and mechanistic investigations of flavivirus replication and pathogenesis.
Applications of Japanese Encephalitis Virus Core Protein
• Viral assembly and nucleocapsid formation studies • RNA-binding and genome packaging investigations • Virus-host interaction research • Antiviral drug discovery and screening • Structural biology and protein characterization • ELISA, Western blot, and immunological assays
Biological Significance of the Core Protein
The JEV Core protein is essential for the formation of infectious virus particles. By binding and packaging the viral RNA genome, the protein drives nucleocapsid assembly and contributes to virion maturation. Studies have shown that the Core protein also localizes to intracellular membranes, lipid droplets, and other cellular compartments, where it influences viral replication and particle production. Because of its central role in the flavivirus life cycle and its interactions with multiple host factors, the Core protein remains an important target for mechanistic studies and the development of novel antiviral strategies.
