About SIVmac239 Nef Recombinant Protein
Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) is a lentivirus that naturally infects non-human primates and serves as the principal animal model for HIV/AIDS research. The Nef (Negative Factor) protein is an accessory protein expressed early during infection and is a major determinant of viral pathogenesis. Although Nef is not essential for viral replication in vitro, it enhances viral infectivity and promotes immune evasion by downregulating CD4, MHC class I, and other host cell surface proteins, while modulating T-cell signaling and intracellular trafficking pathways. The SIVmac239 isolate is one of the best-characterized molecular clones and is widely used in rhesus macaque models of HIV infection.
