About Phlebovirus Glycoprotein G1 (Gn)

Phleboviruses are enveloped RNA viruses belonging to the family Phenuiviridae and include important human and veterinary pathogens such as Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV), Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome Virus (SFTSV), and Heartland virus. Viral infection is initiated through the coordinated action of two envelope glycoproteins, G1 (Gn) and G2 (Gc), which mediate host-cell attachment, viral entry, membrane fusion, and virion assembly.

Glycoprotein G1 (Gn) is a major structural component of the viral envelope and plays an essential role in receptor interaction, virion organization, and protection of the fusion machinery during viral entry. Gn forms a heterodimeric complex with Gc and contributes to the highly ordered glycoprotein lattice present on the virion surface. Because Gn is exposed on the viral envelope and participates in host-cell interactions, it represents an important target for vaccine development, neutralizing antibody discovery, and antiviral research.
