About Anti-Gag (HIV-1/Clade B) Rabbit Polyclonal Antibody

The HIV-1 Gag (Group-specific antigen) polyprotein is one of the most abundant and highly conserved structural proteins of HIV-1 and is essential for viral assembly, budding, and maturation. During viral maturation, the p55 Gag precursor is cleaved by the viral protease into the mature structural proteins matrix (MA, p17), capsid (CA, p24), nucleocapsid (NC, p7), and p6, which together form the architecture of infectious virions. Because Gag is highly immunogenic and expressed at high levels during viral replication, it is widely used in studies of HIV biology, lentiviral vector production, vaccine development, and diagnostic assay development.

Biological Significance of HIV-1 Gag

The Gag polyprotein is the principal structural component driving HIV-1 particle assembly. Following synthesis, Gag targets the plasma membrane, recruits viral genomic RNA, and assembles into immature virus particles. During or shortly after budding, HIV-1 protease cleaves p55 Gag into the mature structural proteins p17 (matrix), p24 (capsid), p7 (nucleocapsid), and p6, a process that is essential for the formation of infectious virions.
