About Elite™ gp120 (HIV-1/Clade B) ELISA Kit

Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 (HIV-1) remains one of the world's most significant infectious pathogens. The viral envelope glycoprotein gp120 is the exterior subunit of the Env (gp160) complex and is responsible for the initial attachment of HIV-1 to susceptible host cells through binding to the CD4 receptor and the chemokine co-receptors CCR5 or CXCR4. Because gp120 is exposed on the viral surface and contains numerous neutralizing epitopes, it is a primary target for vaccine development, therapeutic antibody discovery, viral entry studies, and antigen quantification. Accurate measurement of gp120 expression is therefore essential for HIV vaccine research, recombinant protein production, pseudovirus characterization, and antiviral drug development.

The Elite™ gp120 (HIV-1/Clade B) ELISA Kit is a highly sensitive sandwich ELISA designed for the quantitative measurement of HIV-1 Clade B gp120 in cell culture supernatants, recombinant protein preparations, and serum samples. The assay utilizes a highly specific anti-gp120 monoclonal capture antibody together with an anti-gp120 polyclonal detection antibody, providing excellent specificity and sensitivity over a quantitative detection range of approximately 0.316–316 ng/mL. The kit contains sufficient reagents for two 96-well ELISA plates (200 assays) and produces results using a standard microplate reader at 450 nm, making it suitable for routine laboratory analysis as well as high-throughput sample processing.

Applications

•  Quantification of HIV-1 Clade B gp120 protein
•  HIV vaccine antigen development
•  Recombinant gp120 protein expression analysis
•  Cell culture supernatant monitoring
•  Neutralizing antibody and antigen characterization
•  HIV pseudovirus production and quality control
•  Antiviral drug discovery and development
•  HIV entry and envelope protein research

Biological Significance of HIV-1 gp120

HIV-1 gp120 is one of the best-characterized viral envelope proteins and plays an indispensable role in viral attachment, receptor recognition, and host cell entry. Binding of gp120 to CD4 induces conformational changes that expose binding sites for CCR5 or CXCR4, ultimately triggering gp41-mediated membrane fusion and viral infection. Because gp120 is heavily glycosylated and highly immunogenic, it is the principal target of many broadly neutralizing antibodies and remains a major focus of HIV vaccine design and therapeutic antibody development. Quantitative analysis of gp120 expression is therefore critical for evaluating recombinant protein production, monitoring vaccine antigens, characterizing pseudoviruses, assessing neutralizing antibodies, and supporting the development of next-generation HIV therapeutics. The Elite™ gp120 (HIV-1/Clade B) ELISA Kit provides a reliable, sensitive, and reproducible platform for HIV research, immunology, virology, and biopharmaceutical development.
