Description

This cell line is a HEK-293-CNG cell line that expresses a recombinant human LHCGR. HEK-293-CNG cells express a modified CNG (Cyclic Nucleotide Gated) channel that opens in response to elevated intracellular cAMP levels and consequently result in ion flux and cell membrane depolarization.

About Human Luteinizing Hormone/Choriogonadotropin Receptor (LHCGR/LHR) Stable Cell Line

Luteinizing Hormone/Choriogonadotropin Receptor (LHCGR), also known as the Luteinizing Hormone Receptor (LHR) or LH/CG Receptor, is a Class A G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that is activated by both luteinizing hormone (LH) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). LHCGR primarily couples to Gs proteins, stimulating adenylate cyclase activity and increasing intracellular cAMP levels, while also activating additional signaling pathways involved in steroidogenesis and reproductive function. The receptor is predominantly expressed in ovarian granulosa and theca cells, luteal cells, and testicular Leydig cells, where it plays essential roles in ovulation, corpus luteum formation, testosterone production, and fertility.

LHCGR is a critical regulator of human reproduction and endocrine physiology. Dysregulation of LHCGR signaling has been associated with infertility, hypogonadism, Leydig cell disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and reproductive cancers, making the receptor an important therapeutic target for reproductive medicine and assisted reproductive technologies.

Biological Significance of LHCGR

LHCGR is the primary receptor mediating the biological effects of LH and hCG in both males and females. Activation of the receptor stimulates Gs-mediated cAMP signaling, promoting steroid hormone synthesis, follicular maturation, ovulation, corpus luteum maintenance, and testosterone production. During pregnancy, hCG activation of LHCGR supports corpus luteum function and progesterone production, which are essential for early gestation.
